Grandfather Calls Granddaughter Whenever He Sees A Dog

Grace Higgins | July 26th, 2019

A girl named Haley Okun is a dog lover through and through. Growing up, dogs were always an important member of the family. Throughout her life, her family has had four dogs that were considered family members, not pets. The entire family shares that love of dogs and it has helped them to bond over the years. That bond is particularly strong with Haley and her grandfather. She lived with her grandfather for 7 summers growing up so she could sail on Cape Cod—this means they are very close. When they would take walks together in the summer, Haley’s grandpa always pointed out dogs they would encounter out on their journey.

Her grandfather, Steve Gavin, has always been a dog lover and just loves that he and Haley can share their love of four legged furry friends together. Steve grew up with dogs just like Haley did and while he does not have a dog now, he gets his “dog fix” in when he visits his children who all have dogs. Steve and his wife love to travel, so that makes it difficult to have a dog in their home. Though Steve does not have a dog right now, that does not stop him from making friends with dogs everywhere he goes. The area where he lives has many dogs around and he runs into them constantly. Each time he sees or meets a dog, he calls his granddaughter Haley to tell her all about it. Haley typically answers the phone when he calls, but recently she missed his call and he left the sweetest voicemail.

Haley says her grandfather Steve loves to tell her about the dogs he’s seen and even sends her dog articles. Steve is always sure to greet the dogs he meets, pet them, and then report back to his granddaughter so she too can feel the joy of meeting a dog!
