Coming into Tuesday night’s West Coast Conference Tournament Championship game, there was one clear favorite. The same team that has dominated the scene in that conference for years: the Gonzaga Bulldogs. But, St. Mary’s had different ideas on this night. With their bubbles riding ever so closely next to the cut line, there was only one way to guarantee they made the NCAA Tournament: beat the #1 ranked Bulldogs, a 30-2 team. And they did just that, running away with it in the second half to capture a famous 60-47 victory that propels them into the NCAA and shakes up the bracket so very much. Gonzaga had won the title the past six years and also had the country’s longest winning streak. Those have now fallen by the wayside thanks to the Gaels, who were led by Jordan Ford’s 17 points in the win.
