Tyson’s Debut Boosts Lakers, NCAA to Begin Investigations, Tebow to AAA in 2019

Derrick Rose enjoyed another fine performance on Wednesday night for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but once again his team lost on the road, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers 114-110. That’s because three men stood in the way of the resurgent star (who scored 31 on the night). One of them was LeBron James. The newest Laker legend hasn’t been at his usual best this season, but he had nearly a triple-double on the night with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Tyson Chandler was another of the triumvirate that helped lead the charge for them. Chandler was making his debut for the Lakers, and he was playing for a team in his home town for the first time ever. He didn’t disappoint. He added much-needed defense and rebounding in the paint at crucial points. And finally, Kyle Kuzma was the third of the trio. He scored 21 points on the night, but he got six of them in the closing minutes to help ensure a win that boosts the Lakers to 5-6 on the season.

In NCAA news, it looks like the time for investigations and penalties could be soon. The Federal government has, reportedly, given them the go-ahead to use the information used from their cases involving the pay-to-play scandals, as well as other corruption-related occurrences. A lot of the work has been done for them already, and if a court of law has found them to be true, the NCAA simply will have to go through the motions and then figure out just how harshly the school should be punished. It would not be a major surprise, at least it shouldn’t be, if we see one school given the death penalty. But we will see if the NCAA has the gumption to do that, as they have balked in the past at it.

And finally, on to news about Tim Tebow. The former Denver Broncos quarterback made headlines when he took a Michael Jordan-esque move to baseball a couple of years ago. Only this time, he’s succeeding where Air Jordan did not. The New York Mets’ GM has announced that Tebow will be starting the 2019 season in AAA after having an excellent season last year. Tebow, who had shown good power but only a low average in his first season, improved rapidly in AA last season to hit .273 in 84 games. He added six home runs in a shortened season due to a hand injury, but apparently it was enough to turn heads and get him a promotion. Just imagine how big it’s going to be when he makes the majors!
