The Woman Whose Car Struck & Killed Broadway Star Ruthie Ann Miles’ Child Found Dead

Dorothy Bruns,44, was found dead of a suspected suicide by a friend who did a welfare check on her. The friend of Bruns who has not been identified found Bruns not breathing and unresponsive, 911 was called. The NY Police department said Bruns was found dead, and there were no signs of foul play in the Staten Island home. In March Bruns was accused of slamming her car into Broadway star Ruthie Ann Miles, as she was walking with her daughter, a friend, and the son of the friend.

Miles’ daughter Abigail Blumenstein,4 was killed, also killed was 1 year old, Joshua Lew. Miles was pregnant, and was injured, also injured was Lew’s mother Lauren, a close friend of Miles. Two months after the accident Miles suffered a miscarriage. In May a Grand Jury convened in Brooklyn, NY and indicted Bruns on manslaughter, and two counts of criminally negligent homicide. Bruns ran a red light, and fled from the scene dragging Joshua Lew’ in his stroller down the street for a half mile, before she crashed into parked cars.

Bruns, told police that suffered a seizure, but police said that Bruns had been ticketed twice for running red lights. Friends of Miles said that she was ‘an amazing mother that put the needs of her daughter first. They were inseparable, and Abigail was looking forward to being a big sister.’ Miles returned to Broadway in August in her Tony winning role in ‘The King and I’. Her co-star actress Kelli O’Hara said of Miles return to the stage, “She’s singing like an angel and commanding the stage with a heavenly force. An inspiration to all, I thought you would want to know.” Bruns was facing a 30 year to life sentence, a friend who did not want to be identified, said ‘She has been gravely depressed since the accident, over the deaths of those kids.’
