Former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is coming off a serious achilles tendon injury, but that did not stop the San Francisco 49ers from offering him a $39 million contract.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Sherman is expected to be ready to participate in the 49ers training camp following this injury that sidelined him for the 2017 season.
Even coming off a torn Achilles, Richard Sherman and the 49ers both still expect that he will be ready for training camp this summer, per sources.

Prior to this injury, Sherman was one of the best cornerbacks in the league. While he still may be at this level, the injury he sustained last season will definitely affect the way that he plays and may result in him returning to full strength slower than expected.
He underwent his second surgery on his achilles recently, but it was a minor procedure that just took out some bone spurs out that have been bothering him for a while.
Sherman will provide veteran leadership to a young 49ers team. While they had a very disappointing season last year, they have a tremendous upside with Jimmy Garoppolo starting at quarterback.
Interesting. Just $7M in base salary. $6M more in incentives. Sherman is betting on himself in a big way. $16M in base for 2019 & ‘20 becomes guaranteed if he’s All-Pro. Another option would’ve been signing a 1-year & be a free agent again in 2019. Will watch this play out. https://t.co/hBMjRajtX8

In addition, sherman has been known as one of the most vocal players in the NFL which could energize this young team to overachieve. This is a great acquisition for the 49ers and will give them a base to build off of if Sherman is able to return at full strength.
