Puppy Born With Mustache

Grace Higgins | June 17th, 2019

A stray dog, a shepherd mix, and her eleven puppies came to the Dallas Animal Services facility in Texas back in July of 2019. When the mother dog and her litter arrived, the staff noticed there was something unique about these little dogs. All dogs are born with hair on their faces, some even having pronounced beards. But one of the puppies was truly unique: she had a handlebar mustache. The shelter environment is not ideal for young families like this one and after they were there for two weeks they knew something needed to be done. The facility typically sees nearly 100 animals go through their doors each day.

The staff said puppies are at a high risk of becoming sick in a shelter, so they worked to find a home for them. That’s where the Hearts & Bones Rescue stepped in and found a foster home for the entire family—the mother and all eleven of her puppies. The most unique the family is one little puppy they named Salvador Dolly—aka Mustache Puppy. She has a handlebar mustache just like the famous artist. The puppies are just five weeks old and they now have a safe place to get the attention and medical care they need. Their foster family makes sure they all get the nutrition they need—and give their mom plenty of TLC so she can rest and provide for her puppies.

The puppies are still very young and are not quite ready for their forever homes just yet. They spend most of their time wrestling around and playing with one another and then taking naps and snuggling together. They have quite the life! Once they have been weaned and are strong enough, they will head to New York together. From there, each will go into a foster home until they are ready for their forever homes. Thanks to her unique look, Salvador Dolly won’t have any trouble finding a home!
