Leonard Leads Raptors Past Nets, Sweet 30 for Harden, Tampering Gone Wild, Mickelson Wins!

The last minute of the Toronto Raptors’ game against the Brooklyn Nets might as well be Kawhi Leonard’s last minute, such was the level of dominance that he exuded. Danny Green deserves a shout out, no doubt, but it was their superstar that led the way, doing everything we have come to know and love about it so well. First of all, he scored a bucket with a minute to go. He’d then dish a pass to Green, who would oblige by hitting the game-tying three-pointer. From there, Leonard then would make another shot to give the home team a 127-125 lead with just over four seconds remaining. Perhaps his biggest bit of play came then, as an in-bounds play occurred. Leonard held up two men for a moment, making it impossible for them to get off a clean shot, and the Raptors held on for a win with their new-look team. He finished the night on 30 points, hitting all nine free throw attempts along the way as they improved to 42-16 on the season.

Elsewhere, James Harden kept his 30 points scoring streak alive, somehow. Playing with a sore shoulder, he fought through the pain to put up 11 points in a minute and 40 second stretch in the fourth quarter to get over the hump. He’d finish with 31 points total as the Houston Rockets claimed victory over the Dallas Mavericks 120-104. “The Unguardable Tour” will continue on for another day, but how much longer can it possibly last now?

Off the court, the NBA has a big problem: tampering. There have been even more reports come day this week, with Monday appearing to be a major turning point in all of it. The 76ers and Lakers, once again, are involved. Apparently, the NBA is looking into whether or not Magic Johnson was trying to undermine Ben Simmons’ career in Philly. However, Philly have made it clear that the point was for Simmons- a 6’9’’ point guard- to speak to one of the game’s legends. Another team, the Bucks, have also reportedly been alleged to partake in the Anthony Davis sweepstakes publicly, meaning they are due a fine. It’s getting a little ridiculous. We all know what is going on behind the scenes. Why can’t we see it out in public and have it be more transparent since it’s obviously happening anyway?

Jim Nantz said it best. Phil Mickelson, like Clint Eastwood, is becoming a part of the furniture at Pebble Beach. The left-hander officially clinched his win on Monday morning by three strokes with his fifth win at the pro-am in his career. At 48 years of age, it’s also his 44th win overall, giving him slight hope he can obtain his goal of 50 wins before he retires. His extremely steady 65 in the final round that saw him come from three shots behind and win by three shows he still has gas in the tank, and it leads many to believe he might just be able to pull off some magic back at Pebble Beach later this year when the US Open rolls into town. He does turn 49 on Sunday that week…
