Kevin Hart Steps Down As Host Of The Upcoming Academy Awards Show

Comic Kevin Hart was announced two days ago as the upcoming host of The Academy Awards in early 2019. The comic had been facing extreme backlash about past insensitive comments he made about the LGBTQ community. He has apologized about his remarks that he made 8 years ago, and apologized today, but the backlash proved to be too harsh, “he said the world is becoming beyond crazy.” He said”I’ve made the choice to step down as a host of the Oscars”, the comic wrote on Twitter. The comments resurfaced after he was named as the host, one of the most coveted gigs in Hollywood.

Hart went on to explain, “this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ for my insensitive words from my past.” Hart says the anti gay comments he made was in 2009 and 2010, and the comments do ‘not reflect the man he is now.’. He said he refuses “to feed the internet trolls who are rewarded in our society.’ The Oscars which in years past had a world wide audience of over 50 million viewers world wide.

The show has had dwindling ratings, and the Oscars was hoping to bring in a younger audience with Hart as the host. According to the comic and actor, he was given an ultimatum to apologize for his remarks or he would be out as host. He claims he apologized immediately, and also apologized publicly 8 years ago when he first made the comments. Hart has been the focus of more than a few headlines in the past year, including infidelity, which he admitted to and publicly apologized to his wife. Hart left some room in his statement, by saying “I hope I see you again’, which some are saying means Hart may still host the show.
