Harden, Curry Accomplish Historic Feats and Lead Teams to Victory

Grace Higgins | January 12th, 2019

Where do you even start with James Harden? For the past month or two, the Beard has transformed back into an MVP contender- alright the frontrunner if there is any justice in this world- by scoring bundles and bundles of points upon any team he faces. His surge has helped push the Houston Rockets into a legitimate race for the #1 seed in the Western Conference, and much of it has been done without Chris Paul on a team that looked to not even be in the playoff race for a while. On Friday night, Harden made even more history by completing his third triple-double in six games against the Cleveland Cavaliers 141-113. The Cavs are a shell of their former selves without LeBron, but the feat is still notable because it is the third time in six games Harden has racked up a triple-double. Oh, and not just an ordinary one, one in which he has 40 points or more. Last night, he had 43 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds (thanks to PJ Tucker, who essentially ‘let’ him have the board toward the end) in just 30 minutes of work. That appears to be another record as well. If anyone wants to win MVP, or to start taking top spot in the news every night, they are going to have to step up in a big way to oust Harden. Until then, the Beard it is!

Like Harden, Steph Curry also made a bit of history on Friday night as he made his way to third place on the all-time NBA three-pointers made list. Curry surpassed Jason Terry as his Golden State Warriors defeated the Chicago Bulls by a score of 146-109 in Oakland. Curry’s basket in the third quarter with just a tick under 10 minutes on the clock gave him a total of 2,283. It took him past Terry, and it now means he is only looking upwards toward the likes of Reggie Miller and Ray Allen. Curry told reporters he would like for the duo to sign the game ball to record this moment in history as well as to honor the game. Overall, Curry finished the game with 28 points in just 27 minutes of action as his team rolled to a fairly routine victory. Klay Thompson, fresh off setting the record for most 3’s made by an individual player against the Bulls last year, once again scorched them for 30. Kevin Durant had 22 points to close it out as they dominated the lowly Bulls.
