Eagles Beat Redskins, Curry Handles Hawks, Heisman Candidates Revealed, Modric Wins

Grace Higgins | December 4th, 2018

Two things came out of the Philadelphia Eagles’ 28-13 win over the Washington Redskins on Monday night: they remain alive in the playoff picture at 6-6, and maybe most importantly, Carson Wentz looked like his old self again. The QB was able to move around and extend the play longer, like he had been able to do before his ankle injury, and that helped lead his team to a win thanks to two TD throws and 306 yards in the air. In the fourth quarter, he led the team from a 14-13 lead to a touchdown and two field goals to seal off the game and pull to within one of the Dallas Cowboys. If they can get this sort of play and production from him, then the defending Super Bowl champs might just claw their way into the playoffs, a prospect feel will be looking forward to if they are honest after their exploits last season.

Bleeding Green Nation

In Atlanta, a couple of things also were happening on Monday night. Not only did the struggling Hawks continue to be cannon fodder, but they were shown up by a returning Stephen Curry. The Golden State Warriors’ guard lit up the Hawks in the first quarter to the tune of 18 points, good enough to outscore them himself by one point. In his second game back since his groin injury, Curry then would go on to finish with 30 points in only 29 minutes of play as his Warriors easily defeated the Hawks 128-111. With him back in the fold, the already unstoppable Warriors have become even more bulletproof once again.

The final three candidates for the Heisman Trophy have been announced, and the 84th winner of the award will be a quarterback yet again. Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins will be joined by Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa later this month to see who takes the award. The latter two will also meet in the College Football Playoff, making this a little bit more intriguing to see if it drives the spurned party into action.

And finally, the dominance has been ended. It had been since 2008 that the world’s best soccer player- and the Balon d’Or award that is given for it- had not gone to either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. But it finally did so on Monday as Luka Modric, the Croatian superstar that helped get his country to an unlikely World Cup Final, was awarded the prestigious honor. Modric also won the UEFA Champions League, for the third year in a row, with Real Madrid, making him a viable candidate. It’s a bit of a surprise and it might speak to voter fatigue with the other two, but he’s a deserving man that has fought for this chance.
