Duke Upsets Louisville With 23 Point Comeback, Boston Beats Philly Again, Rosen over Murray?

Grace Higgins | February 13th, 2019

It might sound very odd to hear that a number two ranked team ‘upset’ a number 16 team, but that is exactly what ended up taking place on Tuesday night. Playing on the road and looking sluggish, the Duke Blue Devils found themselves behind by as many as 23 points to the Louisville Cardinals, but they just never stopped playing. Mike Krzyzewski kept telling his players, many of which will be in the NBA in quick-time, that he believed that they would win. He was right, as he typically is. It took until the last ten minutes- ‘the final quarter’- but the Blue Devils found their sails and they rode their incredible talent to a 71-69 win. Cam Reddish had a big role to play, draining a three-pointer with a minute and a half to go, then making the go-ahead free throw with double digits on the clock. In the final ten minutes of the game, Duke hit nine of their 13 shots. It was a far cry from what had occurred to start the half, with only two of their first 17 going in. Zion Williamson finished the game with 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead all scorers on the night.

The Boston Celtics just have the Philadelphia 76ers’ number. In the last 12 meetings held between the two teams, the Celtics have ten wins, including that dominant 4-1 series win over the Sixers in last season’s playoffs. That was done without Kyrie Irving even playing, but it’s not just the most simple thing to conclude that they are definitely going to keep up that level now that he’s back (he didn’t even play here anyway) since Philly have made alterations to their own team. Still yet, they’ve been hard-pressed to find a way to get past Boston, and they dropped another one to the Celtics last night in a 112-109 defeat. Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, and Al Horford all scored 20+ on the evening for the Celts as Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler did the same for the hosts. The Celtics proved in the game that they were up for battling after the gauntlet laid down by Marcus Morris. As for the Sixers, perhaps the most notable thing post-game was Embiid’s tirade at the officials, essentially telling the world that they were awful… I’m sure they’ll be consequences for that.

Ever since the shocking unveiling of Kliff Kingsbury as Arizona Cardinals coach, people have assumed that Kyler Murray would be a quarterback that would fit well with him and the team. Now that we know for a fact that Murray will be concentrating on a career in football and is looking to become the first man to ever be drafted in the MLB and NFL first rounds, the speculation has only been ramped up. However, with the draft still over two months away, he has moved to dismiss those rumors and has backed Josh Rosen as the team’s QB. After drafting him last year, the team aren’t likely to want to part with him just yet. But, that’s never stopped anyone from making a move of desperation. We shall see who takes the Heisman winner come April.
