Dog Says Goodbye To Best Friend

Grace Higgins | May 6th, 2019

Losing someone you love is unfortunately a part of life. So, a group of friends and family gathered recently to celebrate the life of someone they loved and lost. They were bidding a final farewell to a man named Bill Schiller as he was laid to rest. However, the people in Bill’s life were not the only ones grieving that day. The sweet dog that Bill left behind was also very broken by the loss of the man. The dog, whose name is Chief, was adopted by Bill over five years ago. Since that day that the two came into one another’s lives they have been inseparable. They did everything together and it was clear to everyone who saw them that they had a truly special bond.

Anne Marie Sibthorp, Bill’s girlfriend, said he and Chief were bonded and just belonged together. So, when Bill passed away and the day came for his funeral, everyone who loved him gathered that day. It only made sense that Chief was there for the day, too. Chief was brought up to Bill’s casket by Anne Marie and no one expected what happened next.

As they got close, Chief put his front paws on the side of the casket. He stretched his neck inside and gave Bill a kiss. Then, Chief laid his head down next to his best friend Bill and just laid there for what felt like a very long time. It was as though he knew Bill was gone and he just needed some time to say goodbye to the man he loved so much.

Bill’s granddaughter caught the touching moment and shared it to Instagram, where it quickly went viral. It is important for people to have closure and to be able to say goodbye when they lose someone they love, and the same goes for the dogs in our lives. Hopefully Chief will soon feel closure after such a big loss.
