A pit bull mix named Blue somehow found her way from her home in Florida all the way to the state of Michigan—and no one knows how it happened. Blue was a stray dog at the Humane Society of Midland County in Michigan and the staff was so excited when the realized she had a microchip. They called the number and a woman in Florida answered; she said the dog had been missing for a week and she wanted her back. The only problem was they needed someone to transport the one year old dog to be reunited with her family—the local media even helped share their plea publicly. Hundreds of people stepped forward to help, and a woman named Stephanie James won the driving gig to bring sweet Blue home. So Stephanie and her brother both took time off work, put gas in the car and headed on their adventure with Blue.
Blue was a wonderful travel buddy, napping in the backseat and even resting her head on Stephanie’s shoulder. A little over 1,300 miles later they arrived in Florida where Blue enjoyed a dip in the ocean. They arrived the owner’s home and Blue was so happy to see her family and wagged her tail and ran around the house excitedly. They began discussing how Blue found her way to Michigan from Florida and the owner said Blue stayed in a backyard kennel while they were gone and someone kept taking her. So, she was either taken or got out of the yard and she perhaps made her way to the nearby highway. After talking for a while the owner said she thought it was best Blue went back to Michigan because she didn’t have time for her. So, they loaded her back up and headed back to Michigan: Blue’s owner just didn’t want her anymore.
It was frustrating for Stephanie, but she did what was best for Blue and headed home. They informed the Humane Society what had happened, and they informed their Facebook followers that Blue needed their help again: she needed a home. Just two hours after she got back a man named Robert Allison came in to adopt her and she’s now in her forever home!
