Colts Stay Hot and Advance, Cowboys Get Revenge, Warriors and Kings Go Crazy

The Indianapolis Colts began Saturday afternoon’s AFC Wild Card Game hot in Houston. Behind Andrew Luck, playing in his hometown, they ran up a 14-0 lead after the first quarter that was soon extended to 21 points in the second. All the Texans could do, despite holding the Colts in the entire second half, was scratch back seven points as they fell to a 21-7 defeat at the hands of them. While Luck, who had two touchdown throws, will get a lot of the plaudits, it was quite possibly a career day for running back Marlon Mack. Mack had a touchdown run of his own and racked up an impressive 148 yards on the ground, including a couple of long runs in the waning moments of the game that killed off any hope of a Texan comeback. The win for Indy makes it nine from their last ten, and it sets them up with a date against the Kansas City Chiefs, the top seed in the conference, for next weekend’s AFC Divisional Round.

Elsewhere, the Dallas Cowboys looked to erase bad memories against the Seattle Seahawks as they played host to them in Arlington. Over a decade ago, Tony Romo’s botched field goal hold saw the Seahawks win. The Cowboys were trying to win their first playoff game in a long time, and they were denied. On this night, they were attempting to win and hope to give themselves a chance to get over the hump of winning two playoff games on a possible Super Bowl run. And they accomplished it in a close contest at JerryWorld. The Cowboys took an early 3-0 lead only to see Seattle come back and get two field goals in the second quarter. Dallas responded with a TD throw by Dak Prescott to Michael Gallup from 11 yards out to make it 10-6 at the half. The third quarter had only one score, which was Russell Wilson’s four yard scamper. Mike Davis made it 14-10 with a two point conversion on the ground. The fourth quarter is where the Cowboys pulled away. An early Ezekiel Elliot, who ended up with 137 yards on 26 carries, TD gave them the lead again at 17-14 and they then scored with just over two minutes left as Prescott carried for a one yard TD to give them a 24-14 lead. A late Seahawks TD wasn’t enough, and the Cowboys won 24-22. Dallas will now either face the L.A. Rams or the New Orleans Saints next weekend.

In the NBA, history was made between the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night. The two teams drained a combined 41 three-pointers as the visiting Warriors grabbed a 127-123 victory. Never before had two teams made at least 20 3’s before in a game, which is another bit of history that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Steph Curry led the Warriors with 42 points and made 10 of his 20 attempts from deep. Buddy Hield was on the losing side, but he still made eight 3’s and racked up 32 points, none of which came from the free throw line!
