For a dog named Cherry Blossom, the world can be a scary place. You see, the senior dog is blind and found herself in the cold, noisy animal shelter. A woman named Piper Thomas who runs the Hand in Paw rescue group in California, first found Cherry Blossom in the shelter when she was twelve years old. The senior Shih Tzu was blind and so scared she just sat in her kennel and shook uncontrollably. Piper knew she needed to help the dog, so she worked to get her out. Cherry Blossom was so scared and just had no idea where she was or what had happened to her. The cold, loud environment is scary for any dog, but especially so for a blind dog. So, Piper started the process of getting her out.

That’s when Piper learned the dog’s story: she was picked up as a stray on the streets and is believed to have been dumped by someone who no longer wanted her. Once she got out of the shelter, Cherry Blossom completely changed. Piper said the dog was happier and seemed to relax. The dog was in pain and confused: her body was covered in tumors and cysts and she had dental disease and ear infections. Piper took Cherry Blossom to the vet for treatment and to an eye specialist, too. She got the help she needed and the specialist was able to remove her cataracts and give her new eye lenses so she could see again. It completely transformed her once she could see again.

Best of all, she got a new home with a woman who dotes on her all day. Her new owner gives Cherry Blossom time on her lap, she sleeps in her bed, and cooks all her meals from scratch. She has now lived with her new owner for four years and though the beginning of her life was not great, these days she has a wonderful life.
