Beagle Saved from Terrible Death

When a woman in Ohio was attending an event, she overheard a terrible conversation. A man was talking about one of his dogs, a beagle. The dog, he explained, refused to hunt and he was planning to shoot it. The woman couldn’t believe what she was hearing, so she approached him and asked about the dog. She wanted to try to find a rescue for it, and the man agreed to surrender the dog. So, she did what so many people do: she posted about it on Facebook. That’s where a woman named Schenley Hutson Kirk, who founded the HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary group, stepped in. She saw the post and help rescue the 14 month old dog, who they named Jeffrey. He was living outside in a barrel full of straw and suffering from a terrible flea allergy.

Despite his situation, Jeffrey was very sweet and relieved to be saved. He was taken in by HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary and then went to the vet for an examination. Other than the flea allergy, he was in good health. He was then taken to a foster home where he made it clear how much he loved people and just wanted to be held and loved by his new foster family. He’s still working on getting used to the sounds of a home, mostly because he has spent his entire life living outside in that barrel. Jeffrey just loves playing with other dogs and people. It’s clear he never really had the chance to do that in his previous home, so he’s getting used to playing with other dogs and with toys, too.

He is very attached to his very first toy, a stuffed bear that he now takes everywhere. These days, Jeffrey is working on simply being a dog: playing with friends, enjoying toys, and really enjoying the love of a human family. He will be ready for a forever home soon!
