The richest man in the world Jeff Bezos announced that he was divorcing his wife of 25 years. The 54 year old founder and CEO of Amazon announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he and his wife MacKenizie,48, were divorcing. The couple met in the early 90’s when both were living and working in New York for a hedge fund company. The couple married a year after meeting, and moved to Seattle, WA, where Bezos started his online shopping company, ‘Amazon’ in the couple’s 1 bedroom apartment.

Bezos has three sons and a daughter with his wife, according to a source, the couple have been separated for several months. According to the source, Bezos and former news anchor, Lauren Sanchez have been spending a lot of time together in the last few months. Sanchez is now in the middle of a divorce from her Hollywood talent agent husband, Patrick Whitesell. They had been married for 13 years, and have two children. Sanchez,49, has introduced Bezos to her close friends and family members say the source.

Bezos is estimated to be worth in excess of 140 billion dollars, which could make this the costliest divorce in history. When the couple married Bezos had not yet founded Amazon, and in Washington state, a spouse is entitled to half of the money earned while being married. It is not known if the couple had any type of prenuptial agreement in place. Bezos was at the ‘Golden Globes’ on Sunday in Hollywood, and was photographed at several after parties with Sanchez. A source revealed that Whitesell is aware of his estranged wife’s relationship with Bezos. Whitesell is one of the most powerful agents in Hollywood, he is the CEO of the ‘William Morris Endeavor Agency’. In a joint statement with his wife, Bezos said ‘they feel very lucky they had found each other, and if they had it to do over again, they wouldn’t change anything.’
